HOW TO INSTALL

1) Clear the area

Remove any existing weeds from around your tree or plant. Loosen the topsoil slightly for better moisture contact.

2) Slide Over Plant or Tree

Use the pre-cut centre slit (squares) or hole (circles) to slide the mat around the base of your plant. No cutting needed.

3) Stake in Place

Use biodegradable wooden stakes around the edges to secure the mat — especially in windy areas. Stakes sold separately.

4) Soak the Mulch Mat

The mat suppresses weeds, retains moisture, and insulates soil for 3–4 years. When it breaks down, it enriches the soil — no cleanup needed.

What are the mulch mats made of?
Canadian grown hemp fibre from Alberta and Manitoba farmers, needle-punched into a biodegradable pulp backing. 40% of the backing is post-consumer recycled material. No synthetic binders, no chemicals.
How long do they last in the garden?
3–4 years in typical garden conditions. They fully decompose in 36–48 months, enriching the soil as they break down. No cleanup — just leave them in place.
Square or circle — which should I choose?
Both work equally well. Circles are often preferred for single trees as they sit flush all the way around. Squares work well for garden beds and rows of plants. Both come pre-cut with a centre opening for easy placement.
Can they be cut to a custom size?
Yes — all Terrafibre mats can be trimmed. Note it will dull scissors quickly. A fabric cutter with a sharpening wheel works best. Custom bulk sizes are available on request.
Do I need the wooden stakes?
In calm conditions the mat sits flat on its own. In windy areas or on slopes, the 6" biodegradable wooden stakes are recommended to pin the edges down securely.
Are they safe around vegetables and edibles?
Yes — completely. No chemicals, no synthetic binders, no plastic. Terrafibre mulch mats are safe for use around edible plants, vegetables, and food gardens.
