Growing The Future With Canadian Hemp

All Terrafibre products are made from 100% industrial hemp fibres. The natural fibre provides the strength and water holding capacity necessary for the growth of young plants. The strong yet loose weave of hemp fibre provides the water and air necessary for a high germination rate. Hemp being one of the strongest natural fibres on earth provide the strength of a synthetic fibre while still being fully biodegradable after use, making Terrafibre products the most sustainable on the market.

"I am so pleased with the Terrafibre Grow Mats! I was getting fed up with soil getting stuck to my microgreens but i’ve grown arugula, cress, broccoli and radish so far on these mats very successfully! A bumper crop that’s clean and easy to harvest :)"

Michelle Faulkner

"I have heard eating microgreens is great for your health, but they are so expensive in the store! I decided I was going to grow my own at home and I gave it a shot with these Terrafibre grow mats. I made arugula and it was way easier than I thought. Excited to branch out a bit, get more creative and stay sustainable."

Mariah

"The Terrafibre Hemp Mats are so strong and absorbent even though they are thin. They are so clean, light and convenient. Plus they are made in Canada, eh! One final note though, they are probably too thin to grow sunflowers or pea shoots on, I am still using coco fiber/perlite for those."

Gardening Girl

"This is so amazing I would highly recommend the Terrafibre brand! I have cut these various sizes, put in cute serving dishes, planted my seeds and in no time I have microgreens that I snip off and put in my salads or just eat right off the container! It is GREAT!"

A Gardening Grandma

"I grow microgreens professionally and have now switched from soil to these wonderful mats. They do require watering a little more but they are easy enough to water if you bottom water them. They are actually 100 times easier to use than soil which do have problems with mold and bugs. I HIGHLY recommend using these Terrafibre Mats."

HOW WE MAKE IT

From field to grow tray

Every Terrafibre product follows the same four-step journey — from a Canadian hemp field to your growing setup, with no chemicals, no synthetics, and no waste at any stage.

Canadian hemp farmers harvest their crop

We partner with licensed industrial hemp farmers across Alberta and Western Canada. After the top of the plant is harvested for nutritional and cosmetic uses, the fibrous stalk — typically baled and left in the field — is collected and transported to our Drayton Valley facility.

Decortication separates fibre from hurd

At our Drayton Valley facility, hemp stalks pass through our decorticator — a mechanical process that separates the long bast fibre on the outside from the woody hurd core on the inside. No water, no chemicals, no heat. Just mechanical separation. Both outputs are used: fibre becomes Terrafibre mats, hurd becomes animal bedding and other products.

Fibres are needle-punched into non-woven mats

The long bast fibres are carded, layered, and needle-punched — a mechanical process where thousands of barbed needles interlock the fibres into a dense, even mat. This non-woven structure is what gives Terrafibre its unique properties: even moisture distribution, excellent air flow, and the structural strength to support roots from germination through to harvest.

Used mats compost back into the soil

Used mats compost back into the soilWhen your grow cycle is done, your Terrafibre mat goes straight into the compost or garden bed. Hemp fibre breaks down naturally, adding organic matter back to the soil. No plastic to landfill. No synthetic residue. The full circle — from hemp field, through your grow tray, back to earth.
