Our Origin

We saw value where
others saw waste

Terrafibre products are designed and produced by BioComposites Group (BCG) — a Canadian company based in the prairies that has spent years engineering products from the extraordinary qualities of common plants and trees, particularly industrial hemp.

In North America, industrial hemp has primarily been grown for its seed — used in cosmetics, nutrition, and food products. That left the fibrous stalk as a by-product, baled and left in fields across Western Canada. We saw an opportunity. That stalk contains some of the strongest natural fibres on earth.

"There are over 50,000 uses for industrial hemp — and we are happy to present you with one more."

We built a decortication and manufacturing facility in Drayton Valley, Alberta, to unlock that value. Raw material is sourced from local hemp farms, cleaned and processed, then needle-punched into our range of non-woven hemp fibre products.

Why Hemp?

Hemp is one of the strongest natural fibres on earth — and one of the most versatile. Here's what makes it the ideal raw material for growing media, bedding, and erosion control.

Incredibly Water Retentive

Hemp fibre holds up to 1000% of its own weight in water — creating a consistently moist environment for germination and root development without waterlogging.

pH Neutral Grow

With a natural pH of 6.7, hemp fibre is ideal for water-based growing solutions and hydroponics — no pH adjustment required right out of the bag.pH 6.7 — ideal for growing.

Non-Woven Needle-Punched Structure

Our unique needle-punching process interlocks fibres into an even, breathable mat — delivering consistent moisture distribution and a strong root anchoring structure.

Naturally Strong

Hemp bast fibre is one of the strongest plant fibres on earth — providing the structural integrity of a synthetic fibre while remaining 100% biodegradable and compostable.

100% Biodegradable

Every Terrafibre product fully composts after use — adding organic matter back to the soil rather than ending up in landfill like synthetic growing media.

Canadian Grown & Made

Our hemp is sourced from licensed Canadian farmers in Western Canada and processed entirely in Alberta — supporting local agriculture from field to finished product.
