We saw value where others saw waste
In North America, industrial hemp has mostly been grown for its seed, which goes into food, nutrition and cosmetic products. That left the fibrous stalk behind, baled and sitting in fields across Western Canada.
That stalk holds some of the strongest natural fibres on earth. So we built a decortication and manufacturing facility in Drayton Valley, Alberta, to turn it into products that do real work and then return to the soil.
TerraFibre is designed and produced by BioComposites Group (BCG), a Canadian company that engineers products from the mechanical qualities of natural plants, particularly industrial hemp.

From field to finished product
Every TerraFibre product follows the same path, with no chemicals and no synthetic fibres.
Harvest
We work with licensed industrial hemp farmers across Alberta and Western Canada. Once the seed is harvested, the fibrous stalk is collected and brought to Drayton Valley.
Decortication
A mechanical decorticator separates the long outer fibre from the woody inner core, called hurd. No water, chemicals or heat, and both parts are used.
Needle-punching
Long fibres are carded, layered and interlocked by thousands of barbed needles into an even, breathable mat. Hurd becomes animal bedding and other products.
Back to the soil
After use, TerraFibre products go into the compost, adding organic matter back to the soil instead of plastic to landfill.
