What makes TerraFibre nesting sheets different
Our hemp is grown by licensed farmers across Alberta and Manitoba. The fibrous stalks are collected after harvest, decorticated at our Drayton Valley facility and needle-punched into the sheets you see here. No chemicals, no synthetic binders. Just clean Canadian hemp, from field to nesting box.

Why hemp fibre works in the nest box
Excellent moisture absorption
Hemp's absorbency keeps nesting boxes dry, which reduces odour and the frequency of full cleanouts.
Stays drier between changes
A drier nest box is a less hospitable environment for bacteria and odour to develop, without any chemical treatment.

Hemp fibre insulates well, helping keep nests warm through winter and supporting consistent laying behaviour year-round.

What are the nesting sheets made of?
100% Canadian hemp fibre with a paper backing. The hemp is grown by licensed farmers across Alberta and Manitoba, then separated, cleaned and needle-punched at our Drayton Valley facility. No chemicals and no synthetic binders.
What size are they?
13″ × 13″, pre-cut to fit standard nesting boxes. The slightly larger size suits bigger breeds. Bulk and custom sizes are available on request, just reach out to our team.
How thick are they?
The sheets sold online are 1000 gsm. If you need something thicker, contact us and we can have sheets custom made.
Do I need to do anything before using one?
No. Take the sheet out of the pack and lay it in the nesting box. That's the whole process.
Are they single use?
They're designed for single use, which is why we made them fully biodegradable and compostable. When the sheet is spent it goes into the compost.
Can I use them in a chick brooder?
Yes. They work well as brooder bedding through the first few weeks, where the absorbency and low dust matter most. Change them as often as the brooder needs.
How do they compare to straw or pine shavings?
The main differences are fit and dust. A pre-cut sheet sits flat and cushions eggs rather than letting them roll, and hemp fibre produces far less dust than straw or shavings. Cleanout is lifting one sheet out rather than mucking out loose bedding.
